Driver Season Reviews - Part 1: The one-offs!

Way back in April, Steve Potts made his Classic Stock Hatch bow in a chaotic opening round at Brands Hatch! With no testing, and changing conditions over the weekend it was a tough set of circumstances - even before you take into account the multi-car pileup at the first corner in race one! Quick hands from the seasoned historic racer produced a miracle save and probably the most dramatic onboard footage clip of the season, even though the season was only 30 seconds old at the time. A solid pair of finishes despite a parted exhaust in the second race was a decent return in a short season for Potts, who spent the rest of the year supporting his son Ted Potts in Fiesta Juniors and recuperating following an accident in his Formula Junior in May.

In June, former Classic Stock Hatch driver Alex Hall made his first race start since 2012 sharing with Pip in the 45 minute Roadsports at Croft. Having kept sharp in recent years competing in Hillclimbs at Harewood, the longer format race in changeable conditions represented a very different challenge. Having qualified 2nd in class D and 22nd overall, Hall traded the lead a few times with Pete Seely’s MR2 in a battle that lasted all race. “Hacksaw Hall” had his own dramatic highlight reel, spending most of his stint spectacularly sideways on the damp track as he got to grips with the Nova. After finally pitting towards the end of the pit window and initially struggling to swing his leg over the rollcage for the driver change, Alex was unceremoniously dragged out through the passenger side of the car by the pit crew - an act that amused the watching officials enough to see the team awarded ‘Team Of The Day’ by series sponsors TEGIWA. The pair eventually finished 2nd in class and 12th overall from 36 starters.
Hall continued to hillclimb sporadically for the rest of the season, and plans more outings in 2020.
